About Malayalam Kalari

Our language, passed on with love

The purpose of the Greater Carolina Kerala Association is to promote and facilitate the cultural, educational, social and economic welfare of Keralites, both among Keralites and the surrounding community at large. Aligning with this mission, GCKA puts together Malayalam classes to build reading and writing skills in our beloved language for our children.

Malayalam Kalari is conducted through the voluntary help of members of the community and is meant to cultivate and foster our cultural heritage among our children. The program first ran for two years at different locations like local libraries and the Bond Park community center; by 2012, we set out to find a permanent venue for the classes.

  • Learn to read and write Malayalam
  • Improve speaking and communication skills
  • Connect with Kerala's rich cultural heritage
  • Build friendships within the community
  • Participate in cultural and educational activities
